The newest member of CTG UAlbany is an award winner.

Program assistant Jillian Palmer, who officially joined CTG at UAlbany in March, will accept the 2018 Ed Janosik award from the International Relations and Political Science Department at the State University of New York at Geneseo on April 27 at the Big Tree Inn in Geneseo, N.Y.

This is the second time that Palmer has won the award for students, “who have shown outstanding service,” to the department. Palmer graduated from Geneseo in December, a semester early, which kept her eligible for the award. 

During her time on campus, Palmer was a teaching assistant for two semesters, while also coordinating the department’s networking trip to Washington D.C. last fall. She also volunteered to teach English to refugees at the Rochester Public Library and Rochester International Academy through the United Nations Association of Rochester (UNAR).

During the summer of 2017 she took a leading roles in coordinating survey results on schistosomiasis – a disease caused by freshwater parasitic worms - for the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research at the University of Ghana in Accra.

Beyond her work in the field, her paper, “Impacts of Climate Change on State Security in a Gendered Perspective,” was selected for presentation at the third annual Sigma Iota Rho conference on April 20. 

The award is named in honor of Dr. Edward Janosik who is an Emeritus Professor of Political Science at Geneseo.
