NYS City CIOs coming to CTG UAlbany

March 5, 2019

When cities across New York State want to get together to share information and expertise, they turn to CTG UAlbany.

Since 2015, Chief Information Officers (CIOs) from cities around the state, including Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Buffalo, Plattsburgh, Yonkers, and New York City, have been gathering annually in an informal workshop to share knowledge and experiences and learn from each other in a trusted space.

“These workshops are a learning experience for both the CIOs and us here at CTG UAlbany,” said Project Director Meghan Cook, who envisioned and now facilitates these sessions. “The agenda is set by the group and then I design and organize the sessions to ensure that the discussions meet the needs of the group.”  This year’s meeting, being held on March 28-29th at CTG, will focus on wireless and 5G deployment, cyber security, data management, telecommuting policies, and IT governance.

While the workshops are informal in nature, a small number of government and non-profit leaders with expertise in the topics of interest are invited in to talk with the group this year that includes representatives from New York State’s Information Technology Services (NYS ITS), Department of Homeland Security (NYS DHS), and Department of Labor (NYS DOL), as well as representatives from the New York Conference of Mayors (NYCOM), Next Century Cities, and the National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA).

“When the NYS City CIOs wanted to mobilize as a group, we turned to CTG UAlbany. Since then they’ve been our trusted partner and advisor as we develop our relationships, discuss our common challenges, and share information across the state.” said Bob Cacace, CIO City of Yonkers

CTG UAlbany – formerly known as the Center for Technology in Government at the University at Albany – aims to help governments transform public services through innovations in management, policy and technology.
