Derek manages the Technology Solutions Laboratory and the Technology Services Unit and maintains technology infrastructure while also researching, prototyping, and implementing innovative and sustainable technology solutions.
In over 20 years at CTG UAlbany, Derek has championed emerging technologies such as XML frameworks and XML databases for web content management, systems management, and more. He has led activities into data visualization and the Internet of Things.
Derek was also responsible for directing CTG UAlbany's technology transfer program within the University to bring our innovative products to a greater market.
He brings strong practical experience in automating system management and system deployment and evaluating sustainable software solutions.
Academically, Derek spearheads CTG UAlbany's Student Lab, providing students from UAlbany's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and other academic programs with practical experiential learning opportunities.
Derek is also a member of the City of Albany's Broadband Initiative Working Group. This group, established in 2015, works to assess the broadband landscape in Albany, investigate the "digital divide," among city residents, and help map out a solution to ensure the City has a broadband network that provides affordable, high speed internet for all.
