Brief Bio

Peter A. Bloniarz, Ph.D.

Peter Bloniarz is an emeritus faculty member at the University at Albany, where he has served in the department of computer science for more than 45 years. At the University, he was the founding Dean of the former College of Computing and Information and served in multiple administrative positions including Interim Vice President for Research and the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.  He played a key role in the establishment of several research centers at the University, including being one of the co-founders and research director of the award-winning Center for Technology in Government.

Prior to retiring, Dr. Bloniarz served for almost nine years as Executive Director and Senior Policy Advisor for the NYS Governor’s Cyber Security Advisory Board. The Board was created in May 2013 to advise the Governor on developments in cyber security and recommend innovative strategies that keep all New Yorkers and New York institutions safe from cyber threats.

Dr. Bloniarz received academic degrees from MIT, the University of Massachusetts, and the College of the Holy Cross
